meet the THERAPIST

CHIAMAKA DURU, m.S., lpc

As someone who has dealt with their own personal struggles with mental health & self-esteem, I developed a passion to learn more about the mind and human behavior to better understand why we think, feel, & do the things that we think, feel, & do. I pursued a B.a. in Psychology at Texas Tech University in 2018 & an M.s. in Mental Health Counseling at SMU in 2022. I am now practicing as a fully Licensed Professional Counselor.

I have experience working in different mental health settings from treatment centers to private Practice. My most recent & fulfilling work was having the privilege to provide therapy services to teenage girls in the juvenile justice system teaching them healthy coping skills such as distress tolerance, emotion regulation & interpersonal relationship skills.

I also have a natural heart to support the girls through real/girl talk, giving advice & encouragement either one-on-one, or in a group setting. I have curated in-person events such as ‘Pillow Talk’ & ‘Let’s Heal & Grow Together’ to facilitate safe spaces for us to do the work & become the highest version of ourselves.

Mixed with my passion for mental health & helping the girls through real talk advice & encouragement, 4 Da Gurlz aims to support all women & girls of all walks of life to get real with themselves & do their inner work so they can experience a beautiful outer world.
